One Tequila, Two Tequila…

On Jul 30, 2012, in Drinkware, by urbandazzle

The world tends to look amazing after a couple of swigs of the revered Mexican elixir, Tequila. More often than not it’s the tequila shots that come to mind instantly, but there’s more to tequila then you might know. This spirit, which comes only from the spiky agave plant that grows in the areas that surround the city of Tequila, Mexico is said to trace back to the Aztec Gods themselves. Not surprising that July the 24th is celebrated as the national tequila day in Mexico. Here are some tips to get more out of your next bottle. We have tips, cocktail recipes and of course everything you need to consume your tequila.

Let’s begin with the Unparalleled Tequila Shot:

Tequila slammers

A Tequila Slammer is one of the more popular ways to drink tequila around the world. The classic (and often messy) way of doing this is to lick the back of your hand and pour on salt, before licking it off, taking your tequila shot and biting into a lime or lemon wedge.
Check out the shot glasses section at urbandazzle for a never before range of tequila slammers.
Enjoy your tequila straight up like the Mexicans or try a bandera.

Inspired by the colors of the Mexican flag, this drink is served in 3 separate shot glasses consisting of tequila (white), fresh lime juice (green), and sangrita (red)-a spicy tomato-based chaser. Each serving requires 1-ounce each of tequila, lime juice, and sangrita.
Any tequila bottle labelled ‘Reposado’ means it’s been aged. Contrary to the popular belief, high quality tequilas are better enjoyed sipped like a glass of fine scotch in an elegant DOF or OF tumbler like this crystal tumbler from Davinci crystal.
Spice up your tequila experience by mixing up a cocktail, here’s a perfect tequila cocktail if you want something quick and simple

Herradura Charro Negro:

  • 60ml Herradura Anejo Tequila
  • 120ml Cola
  • Squeeze of Lime Juice

Pour the tequila and cola over ice in a highball glass, give it a good mix and squeeze in the lime.
If it’s something more elegant you fancy, try the Tequila Sunrise in a hurricane glass from urbandazzle or the Turquoise Margarita in a Margarita glass.
Turquoise Margarita:

  • 50ml Tequila
  • 25ml De Kuyper Blue Curaçao
  • 25ml Lime Juice
  • Dash of Sugar Syrup

Shake up all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, before using a fine strainer to pour into a chilled margarita glass. Garnish with a citrus fruit wedge.
A classic margarita glass is the best choice for serving this up!

An insider’s tip: before pouring, run a lime slice around the rim of your glass then tip it upside down for coating with salt.

Add some decorations; a classic fruit slice always works well. Don’t forget your Cocktail Straws and Cocktail Umbrellas for the finishing touches!
Make sure you have the right tools for the job, shaker for mixing, Stainless Steel Pourer for less mess and a Double Jigger Measure to ensure a perfect tipple!
