My grandmother passed away ten years ago. My grandpa barely survived the next seven months after she was gone and he too, passed away.
He was very depressed and was soon diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. But he never forgot my grandmother. She was the only one he would constantly remember. He would often think that she was still alive and with him. He would call for her and get upset with her absence. He would bring her up in conversations very frequently and ask us to call her from the next room. He would often throw away the coffee that my aunt made, saying that my grandmother made the perfect cup of coffee. He would get really angry when his bed wasn’t made properly or his clothes weren’t ironed. These were the small things that my grandma took care of. It really affected him because they weren’t done properly.
It was really sad. We told him so many times, but it didn’t matter. To him, his dear wife was still alive and he tried so desperately to find her and be with her.
I think about them all the time and I really hope they’re somewhere together in a better place.
